Dr. Vernig was invited to speak for Rasmussen University Career Services about how members of the university community (students, professors, administrators, other professionals, and their alumni network) can help address the unmet needs surrounding mental illness and substance use disorder in their communities. He discussed the features of mental illness and SUD, as well as how to identify when someone may be in crisis. Dr. Vernig also covered how to have conversations with someone who may need help. He concluded with treatment and crisis resources. Throughout the presentation Dr. Vernig focused on the importance of reducing stigma and having direct and open conversations about mental illness, substance use, and suicide.
